September 5, 2009 (Season Final)

The Linwood Council of Christian Life invites you all to attend our closing services of the summer. If you have never come to a Linwood service, tomorrow would be a great day to give it a try. Our services are nondenominational; attire is casual..

Sunday School in the Chapel Ð 9:45

Adult Sunday School Ð ÒDoubt, Strengthener of FaithÓ   Carolyn Reed, leader

No kidsÕ Sunday School

Tomorrow in the Tabernacle at 10:45

Rev. Wayne Scott, our speaker, is Pastor of LeRoy United Methodist Church in Westfield Center, OH).  He and his wife Tricia have a deep love for Linwood; both of their families have been coming to Linwood for five generations. WayneÕs parents are Linwood cottageowners Bob and Barb Scott.

We have a special musical treat in store: Solid Brass, an ensemble that has played often at Linwood in the past, will bring our special music.

This will be the last Sunday morning worship service of the 2009 season.

  Pioneer Day Ð Tomorrow, Sept. 6, 7:00 p.m.

Our evening gathering on Labor Day Sunday is always a time of precious memories and celebration of the Linwood spirit. One of the centerpieces of the evening is the flower ceremony, and the identification of the person who has been coming to Linwood for the longest time. We will close our time together with our annual friendship circle.

This year will be especially memorable, because we are having a birthday party for Linwood a in the back of the Tabernacle after the service. Plan now to be there to share the evening (and the birthday cake & ice cream!)

At this eveningÕs gathering we honor the memory of Linwoodites who have died since last Pioneer Day, as well as the arrival of new members of the Linwood family. Please communicate deaths or births to Carolyn Reed.

In response to comments, we are working to keep the event to one hour max.

Youth and Family Director needed! Kimmy and David Csepe, who did such a stellar job as Youth and Family Directors this summer, will not be available in 2010, so we are looking for someone to step into this role. If anyone has a suggestion, please let someone on the Council of Christian Life know. Kimmy found it a great advantage to be a member of the Linwood family, so weÕre hoping that someone who knows the Linwood culture can be found.

  125th Celebration Notes

LinwoodÕs celebration of its 125th birthday is drawing to a close.  All the events planned were a wonderful success.  They helped bring the Linwood community together.  The fellowship that was shared, the new friendships that were made and the ties that were strengthened were priceless.

On behalf of all who worked on the 125th committees, we want to  thank the Linwood Park Board of Directors for the renovation of the Grocery Store.  The museum was truly a central focus of the celebration. The Grocery St ore is once again a valuable asset both to LinwoodÕs heritage and its future.

  The Stand

Here we are at the end of another year asking, "Where did the summer go?" It seems like just yesterday we were watching the little ones go by on their delightfully decorated bikes listening to the Linwood band ringing through the grove with the songs of 4th of July cheer. We invite you to the Stand this weekend for our END OF SEASON SALES. We have some T-Shirts and a few Christmas ornaments left. Pleeeeeease come by and help finish off the FOOD. We don't want to be eating ice cream and burgers all winter long. Entertainment for the weekend: Saturday will be Family Night from 7 till 10 with games inside and outside of the Stand.  This is a perfect way to hang with and say bye to friends. Sunday at 12:30 we will have another cookout with burgers, brats,1/4 lb all beef hotdogs and homemade sides. Sid will be back by your request to sing his Island and Folk Music while you eat. So come and enjoy! After dark on Sunday we will show a movie outside the Stand. We thank the people of Linwood for your support this year. The Rices

Through these Gates and Down the Path: Linwood Park will be available at the Stand through Labor Day. Pre-orders may be picked up at that time. Any pre-orders not picked up will be mailed at no extra cost. Extra copies are available at the Stand and after Labor Day through Superintendent Matt Crase, Huggies Coffee Shop, LeeÕs Landing, or Old JibÕs Corner.

  Last Minute Remainders

As fall approaches, if you have leaves that collect under your cottage please consider screening along the sides that are open to prevent recollection and to reduce the fire hazard.   Matt has done an excellent job removing leaves from between cottages but cannot blow them out from underneath each cottage.

To aid in MattÕs leaf blowing job PLEASE store away all your beach toys , chairs, and bikes  in order that the leaves do not collect and to make Matts job easier.

Because of Labor Day, Trash pick up this week will be on Tuesday and Trash will no longer be picked up on Friday the week after Labor Day.

This is the last Linwood Breeze until June 2010.
